Description
If there is one wine that encapsulates the spirit of Ribeiro, it is A Teixa. Born in a small plot of 1.2 hectares in Ribadavia, this white bears the unmistakable stamp of Luis Anxo Rodríguez Vázquez, a winemaker like no other, with the patience and respect for the land that only comes from experience. From his small winery, this master of Galician wine has dedicated his life to recovering native varieties and making wines that speak without artifice.
A Teixa is a tribute to Treixadura, which makes up 95% of the blend, accompanied by a touch of Godello (3%) and Albariño (2%). The vines, between 15 and 30 years old, grow in soils of decomposed granite and sand, on steep terraces that defy gravity over the Miño river. It is not a comfortable vineyard, but it is precisely this difficulty that gives rise to grapes with unmistakable concentration and minerality.
Winemaking
Each cluster is harvested by hand, with the care of someone who knows that great wine begins in the vineyard. The grapes are gently destemmed and fermentation takes place naturally, with indigenous yeasts, in large oak foudres of 2200 and 2300 litres. There, the wine is aged for 12 months on its lees, gaining depth and texture before bottling with light fining and mechanical filtering. It then spends another year in bottle before being released into the world. No rush. All in good time.
Taste
To open a bottle of A Teixa is to immerse oneself in a symphony of aromas and nuances. On the nose, the first thing that appears is a subtle interplay between ripe fruit, fresh citrus and a delicate smoky touch, the result of its ageing. But what is really surprising is its texture: a wine with a creamy touch, one of those that envelop the palate, with a well-balanced acidity that keeps it vibrant and lively.
As it evolves on the palate, it reveals notes of dried fruits, a hint of aromatic herbs and a long finish with a subtle bitterness, like a good aftertaste that invites you to keep drinking. A Teixa is a white wine to be enjoyed unhurriedly, ideal to accompany everything from seafood to cured cheeses or simply to let yourself go and enjoy the magic of Ribeiro in every sip.
