Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Tasting the red 2022 Dido next to the 2021 was a revelation of how transparent this wine is with the character of the year. This is darker, with a fruit-driven nose with darker berry fruit and a more voluptuous palate, reflecting the warmer and drier year. It's a wine with more ripeness and higher alcohol (13.26%) and a rounder mouthfeel, with glossier tannins, even if they harvested a little earlier and do shorter macerations or use a higher percentage of carbonic maceration. They produced 96,000 bottles. It was bottled between January and March 2024.

Description
Dido La Universal is a wine that speaks of stories, landscapes and a land that breathes sun and passion. It is not just a bottle; it is an invitation to discover the soul of Montsant, a region where Garnacha finds its maximum expression.
Behind this wine are Sara Pérez and René Barbier, two names that sound strong in the world of wine and who, with Dido La Universal, have wanted to pay tribute to youth, freshness and tenacity. The blend is as harmonious as a good dialogue: 65% Garnacha, 25% Syrah and a touch of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is as if each variety contributes its grain of sand to build something magical.
Winemaking
The vineyard, located in Falset, lies on a degraded granite soil, known as sauló. This type of soil has a special gift: it retains the heat of the day and releases it at night, favouring a slow ripening process that enhances the fruit expression. The winemaking is pure rustic elegance: fermentation with whole bunches, short macerations and ageing in different formats. Forty percent is aged in oak barrels of between 300 and 4,000 litres, while 60 percent is refined in cement vats, seeking to respect the essence of the fruit.
Taste
The first glass of Dido La Universal welcomes you with an embrace of red fruits, like a basket of ripe strawberries and cherries, accompanied by a subtle mineral echo. On the palate, it feels enveloping, juicy and vibrant, with a balance reminiscent of those moments when everything fits together perfectly. There is a hint of spice, a nod to well-integrated oak and tannins that glide smoothly, leaving a fresh and pleasant sensation.
Dido La Universal is a wine that invites to be shared, to let oneself be carried away by the conversation and to toast the small pleasures of life. Perfect to accompany from a good barbecue to a simple chat with friends, because in the end, the important thing is the moment.
