Description
Vino di Anna Palmento Bianco is an exquisite example of Sicilian winemaking tradition. Produced from organically grown native Sicilian white grapes, this wine has its roots on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. Each cluster of grapes is carefully hand-picked from different vineyards, vinified separately and then blended to produce a fresh, citrusy, dry and mineral white wine.
Winemaking
The composition of Palmento Bianco is mostly (50%) Carricante grapes grown on the Crasa plot, just below the village of Solicchiata. Of these, half were macerated with their skins for 5 days and then pressed in a chestnut barrel. The rest was pressed directly in stainless steel. Another 20% corresponds to the Grillo grape, grown organically in the mineral-rich "terra rossa" soils of Marsala. This grape was macerated for a week and then fermented in stainless steel. An additional 20% is Inzolia, grown organically on clay limestone soils in Vittoria, in the south of the island. These grapes were directly pressed and fermented in stainless steel. The remaining 10% is a field blend of Catarratto and Grecanico grown in contrada Allegracore, also fermented in a chestnut barrel. Each grape variety was fermented with indigenous yeasts, underwent malolactic fermentation and then blended in late October. The finished wine remained on the lees and was bottled in mid-February without fining or filtering.
Taste
Pale straw in colour, Vino di Anna Palmento Bianco awakens the senses with attractive aromas of grapefruit and lemon, complemented by floral notes. On the palate, it is dry, crisp and flinty, with firm acidity. Citrus flavours combine harmoniously with hints of white peach and a delicate nutty sensation. Despite being a light-bodied wine, it is savoury and finishes with an attractive sapid and mineral touch.
