Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 As Sortes is evolving quite slowly and is more polished than when I first tasted it in November 2023. It feels approachable now and seems to have calmed down, with a profile that doesn't point at the warm and dry year they had in the zone. It has good ripeness (14% alcohol), a vibrant palate with a pH of 3.02 and 7.2 grams of acidity and a long, dry and tasty finish. It transcends the vintage. 22,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

Description
As Sortes is a white wine produced by Rafael Palacios in the region of Valdeorras, Galicia. This wine is made from 100% Godello grapes, a native grape of the area. The vineyards from which these grapes come from are located in six small plots on the north side of the Bibei Valley, at altitudes ranging from 680 to 720 metres above sea level. Planted in the 1970s and early 1980s, these vines are between 39 and 44 years old. The soil of these plots is sandy of granitic origin, which contributes to the distinctive character of the wine. The viticulture used is organic and biodynamic, respecting local tradition.
Winemaking
The production of As Sortes begins with a selective harvest, followed by alcoholic fermentation in 500-litre French oak barrels. Subsequently, the wine is aged for 8 months on its fine lees, with periodic lees stirring, which adds complexity and depth to the final product.
Taste
The taste of As Sortes is an experience that combines freshness and complexity. On the nose, it presents an intense aroma of white fruits such as apricots and pears, accompanied by notes of grapefruit, reineta apple and a mineral touch. On the palate, the Godello shows its bittersweet side with a fresh and bright start that extends towards a fattier and warmer finish, with hints of green pistachio and candied citrus. This combination of elements gives the wine a significant capacity for evolution and longevity, making it comparable to some of the great whites of Burgundy.
In short, As Sortes stands out not only for its meticulous winemaking and barrel ageing, but also for its flavour profile that manages to capture the essence of the Galician terroir, offering a rich and well-balanced sensory experience.
