They didn't produce the 2017 vintage of the single-vineyard wine from some of their oldest vines, so after the 2016 they jumped to the 2018 Peñas Aladas Gran Reserva. It has a very intense nose of licorice, flowers (decayed violets), wet chalk, spices (nutmeg), some nuts (pecan) and a volatile twist with great freshness. It matured in French oak barrels for 53 months. It has a fine thread, a chalky and dry feeling, fine tannins and a dry and very tasty finish that's almost salty. It has all the components and the balance with them to develop nicely in bottle. It should age effortlessly for 30 years. It's very impressive, but it doesn't reach the elegance of the 2016. 1,729 bottles and 42 magnums produced. It was bottled in March 2023.

Description
Dominio del Águila Peñas Aladas Gran Reserva is a red wine made with 95% Tempranillo and a minimum contribution of other red varieties and albillo by the Dominio del Águila winery.
The grapes used come from three small plots located in one of the coldest areas of Ribera del Duero and planted mainly with Tempranillo and other red and white grape varieties.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand. In the winery, the bunches of all the varieties are crushed together without destemming and then fermented in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts.
Malolactic fermentation and subsequent ageing for 45 months in French oak barrels in the cool caves of the winery, allowing for a slow evolution that gradually rounds out the wine, giving it enormous complexity.
Taste
Complex and mature in the mouth, silky on the palate, with noble tannins and an austere minerality. It is fresh and with an elegance within the reach of very few, making it a wine of perfect balance and with an overwhelming personality.
