Description
Guiberteau Saumur Les Moulins Rouge is a pure expression of Cabernet Franc in the Saumur region of the Loire Valley. This wine comes from Domaine Guiberteau, a winery that, since its conversion to organic farming in 2000, has stood out for its artisanal approach and commitment to terroir. With 9.4 hectares of vineyards, Guiberteau sits mainly on the clay and limestone soils of Montreuil-Bellay and the Brézé hill. The vines, which vary in age from 10 to 80 years, contribute to the complexity and depth of this wine, giving it a unique structure thanks to the proportion of old vines and the careful viticultural and vinification methods.
Winemaking
In terms of winemaking and ageing, Guiberteau opts for methods that respect the essence of the grapes and the terroir. The grapes are harvested by hand and go through a whole bunch pressing process, a technique that allows the flavours and aromas to be extracted in a gentle and balanced way. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, without chemical intervention, resulting in a natural fermentation that respects the original expression of the wine. Maceration on skins is limited to five days, which gives the wine an accessible structure and a "drinkable" character, ideal for those looking for fine, elegant wines. For ageing, the wine is kept in stainless steel tanks until the following spring, which preserves its freshness and avoids any oak influence.
Taste
The taste is undoubtedly one of the main characteristics of Guiberteau Saumur Les Moulins Rouge. The nose is intense, with notes of dark cherry, light spices and a mineral background reminiscent of crushed stone, adding a touch of complexity. On the palate, concentrated flavours of red fruits, such as blueberries and a light touch of fresh herbs such as thyme, add to the minerality typical of wines from this region. The acidity is bright and well balanced, with fine tannins that give it a silky body and smooth texture. The finish is long and lingering, with a pleasant mineral freshness that invites another sip, leaving a lasting and sophisticated memory.
Guiberteau Saumur Les Moulins Rouge is ideal for those who wish to explore the expressive potential of Cabernet Franc in the Loire Valley, a wine where earth, fruit and technique meet in harmony to offer an experience that is both intense and refined.
