Buy Wine with Clairette Blanche
Clairette is one of the oldest French varieties and has its origins in the Hérault department.
Clairette variety is very vigorous so severe and short pruning is recommended. It adapts very well to poor, dry and calcareous soils. Its vine shoots grow upright and can endure strong winds. It has late ripening and is sensitive to dust mite and grapevine moths but resistant to powdery mildew and botrytis cinerea.
Clairette wine is simple but fresh and seldom with mineral notes standing out so it is recommended to consume it young. This variety is often used in those white wines from Chateaunef-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône, and occasionally in red wines from Château de Beaucastel to add freshness to the resulting wine. An illustrative example of this variety is the white wine Château Rayas, made from Garnacha Blanca and Clairette, both at 50%.
