Buy Wine with Godello
Godello has its origin on the banks of the Sil river in Galicia, northeast of Spain. This variety is well acclimated to dry places. Its clusters are small but packed, with small berries, average-thick skin and delectable pulp. Godello variety is very fertile and more productive than its fellow Albariño. With early budding and ripening, it is susceptible to powdery mildew and botrytis cinerea but resistant to downy mildew. Godello grapes can attain high sugar levels and a mid-high acidity level.
Godello is the star variety of appellation Valdeorras, where more and more high quality wines are produced. It is also authorized in other Galician designations of origin such as Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro and Monterrei, as well as Bierzo, though here it is blended with Treixadura.
Godello wines are very mineral, intense and concentrated, with many good exponents fermented in oak. Godello wines age well in bottle thanks to its redactor potential.
