La Bodega Burja Estate se encuentra en el tradicional entorno vinícola de Vipava, Eslovenia, concretamente en la localidad de Podnanos. Esta bodega combina la tradicional viticultura de Vipava con una comprensión moderna del vino. La historia de la viticultura en la región de Eslovenia moderna se remonta a la antigua Noricum, precursora de Carintia. Las raíces de la viticultura en este territorio son profundas, con evidencias que datan del siglo II y menciones de variedades de vino esloveno en crónicas históricas.

Los viñedos de Burja Estate abarcan varias hectáreas, incluyendo: Ravno Brdo (Podraga) 1,7 hectáreas de Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, Malvasía, Riesling, Welschriesling, Ribolla Gialla; Stranice (Podraga) 1,6 hectáreas de Refosco, Pokalca, Malvasía, Riesling; Zadomajc (Podraga) 0,8 hectáreas de Pinot Noir; Golavna (Orehovica, Pasji rep) 1,4 hectáreas de Zelen; y Ostri vrh (Orehovica, Pasji rep) 1,6 hectáreas de Ribolla Gialla, Riesling y Pinot Noir.
El suelo en estos viñedos se ha desarrollado lentamente en margas y areniscas sedimentarias de más de cincuenta millones de años. Estas rocas, ricas en carbonato de calcio, se formaron en el mar durante la época del Eoceno. El suelo es pesado y retiene la humedad de manera efectiva, y está compuesto principalmente de calcita, sílex y mica. Estas características del suelo son esenciales para las delicadas vides.
Filosofía
Burja Estate se centra en la integridad y el respeto por las variedades locales. La bodega valora la diversidad y riqueza de sus viñedos y considera que la microflora es una parte esencial de la identidad de cada viñedo. En la bodega, solo controlan algunas cosas, como la temperatura y la oxidación, y permiten que la naturaleza haga el resto.
