Originalmente, Fonterenza era la casa de vacaciones de sus fundadores, un lugar donde se conectaron con la naturaleza y donde nació su vínculo con Montalcino y la campiña. Este vínculo con la tierra y la naturaleza se refleja en la forma en que plantaron sus viñedos, siguiendo un sentimiento que creció con ellos desde la infancia.

Los viñedos de Fonterenza se encuentran en la zona sureste del municipio de Montalcino, específicamente en la localidad de Poggio San Polo. Están situados en un rango de altitud entre 420-450 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Una característica distintiva de esta región es el bosque que rodea los viñedos y el Monte Amiata, que actúa como una barrera protectora contra las inclemencias del clima. Además, la circulación de vientos marinos que provienen del suroeste y se encuentran con corrientes frescas del norte y noreste, junto con la luz cambiante, son factores climáticos esenciales de la zona.
El suelo en el que crecen las vides es diverso, compuesto por arcillas, galestro, arenisca, bloques de cuarcita y limo. Esta variedad de suelos, junto con el microclima y las decisiones agronómicas, permite mantener un equilibrio hídrico incluso en años de sequía. En total, Fonterenza cuenta con 4,2 hectáreas de viñedo, divididas en dos macro-parcelas: "Bosco" y "Strada". Estas parcelas están subdivididas en varias más pequeñas, todas cultivadas con la variedad Sangiovese.
Filosofía
La filosofía de Fonterenza se centra en la producción de vinos naturales, expresivos y territoriales. En la bodega, los vinos maduran durante largos períodos, desde 40 hasta 72 meses para el Brunello, y alrededor de dos años para el Rosso di Montalcino y el Alberello. Cada cosecha tiene su propia historia, por lo que respetan los tiempos del vino y le dan el espacio necesario en la bodega. Durante la vinificación, utilizan diferentes técnicas como el remontado, delestage, deshojados manuales y maceraciones con sombrero sumergido. Para la fermentación, emplean tinas de roble y tanques de cemento. Las uvas fermentan de forma espontánea, sin control de temperatura ni adición de productos enológicos, para preservar las características de la cosecha y expresar al máximo el terroir.
La gestión del viñedo sigue los principios de la viticultura natural, con prácticas agrícolas que siguen las fases lunares y planetarias. Todos los viñedos se trabajan a mano y se enfrentan a enfermedades de la vid utilizando solo azufre y cobre en dosis bajas, alternados con productos naturales.
